Gregoire M Poirier
As a seasoned hotelier, I have always found value in focusing on environmental sustainability with my properties and working with my teams. It’s just been in my blood ever since the first Earth Day in which I participated as a child with parental support.
In the 1990s while managing my first resort on the Blue Ridge Parkway, we hunted down 100% recycled paper and sustainable guest room amenity packaging which was not widely available at that time. We also hauled our own recycling to a town weekly, 20 miles away to our closest recycling facility. We did this while successfully driving double digit business growth year over year. Authenticity to our sustainable leader brand was imperative and productive.
Also, along my career journey, my wife Kate (a pastry Chef at that time) and I took on leadership roles at Robert Redford’s Sundance Resort. As he was already a well-known environmental activist with sustainability programs in place, we continued to find new ways to improve sustainability around the resort property. We liked working for an owner who cared about such things.
In the past few years, I have successfully sold millions of dollars in hospitality guest room energy management solutions reducing energy consumption & operating costs. These are proven solutions available today, providing a healthy ROI for owners and operators of hotels and resorts.
Outside of sustainability work, I am an active wine geek and serve on the Board of Directors of the Boston Sommelier Society. When relaxing we love all things family, food & wine, independent films, and sailing on our sloop (S/V Asherah) whenever we can.
